  Cigna Virtual IOP coverage — common questions

  Is Altura in-network with Cigna for virtual IOP?

  Yes. Altura Recovery is contracted in-network with Cigna and Evernorth Behavioral Health for both in-person and virtual outpatient, including Cigna Open Access Plus, LocalPlus, PPO, and most Cigna-administered employer plans.

  Will Cigna cover Structured Outpatient (SOP) as a step-down?

  Yes. After virtual IOP, Cigna covers Structured Outpatient (SOP) as an in-network step-down benefit — one weekly group plus one weekly individual session. We move you into SOP seamlessly when you're ready.

  Is virtual IOP as effective as in-person IOP?

  Multiple peer-reviewed studies — including SAMHSA-funded research — have found that virtual IOP outcomes are equivalent to in-person IOP for most adults with mild-to-moderate substance use disorders. The key factors are program design, clinician quality, and real accountability (which is why we proctor drug tests on video). For people with severe SUD or co-occurring conditions, in-person PHP is usually the better starting point — and we can step you back to virtual IOP afterward.

  How does drug testing work if I'm at home?

  We make it easy and efficient. We send you a test kit and a clinician proctors the collection over secure video — no driving across town, no awkward in-person collection. The whole process takes about 10 minutes.

  Can I do virtual IOP if I'm anywhere in Texas?

  Yes. Our clinicians are licensed in Texas and our virtual IOP is available to anyone living in the state — Houston, Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, Fort Worth, El Paso, the Valley, East Texas, anywhere. You attend group from wherever you are.

  What hours are the groups?

  We run morning groups (typically 9am-12pm) and evening groups (typically 6pm-9pm) so you can keep your job, kids, or school schedule. Groups meet 3 days a week.

  Will my employer know I'm in treatment?

  No. Treatment is confidential and protected by HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2. Your insurance claims do not say "addiction treatment" — they use a CPT code your employer cannot read or see. If you use FMLA or short-term disability, that is your choice and we help you with paperwork only if you ask.

  What if I need to step up to in-person care?

  You can transition to our in-person PHP or IOP in Bellaire at any time. Same clinicians, same chart, same treatment plan — no restarting. This is one of the biggest advantages of choosing a real program with a physical facility over a pure-virtual competitor.
